  over at freeminds we didn't want this day to pass without some recognition of the life and death of ray franz.

  in view of his stated wishes not to have a memorial or service we hoped for something that he would have liked for all of us to take a moment over.. .

  we owe a note of thanks to v for his graphics work and atjeff for the obituary writing - i know neither of them need mentioned by me.. .

  i had spent nearly forty years as a full time representative, serving at every level of the organizational structure.

  the last fifteen years i had spent at the international headquarters, and the final nine of those as a member of the worldwide governing body of jehovah's witnesses.

  it was those final years that were the crucial period for me.

  When I wrote a letter to Ray asking him one of the most important questions we all have "Is the Bible the inspired word of God?" After demonstrating that most of us have faith in a lot of things during our lives, he did not avoid the question, he concluded that for most people believing that the Bible is the inspired word of God would take a leap of faith. I'm not sure if he included himself in that leap of faith.

  I posted his response on the other site before this one under Blueblades. I will try to cut and paste it here. I have not been able to get connected from the other site of Simon's because I moved and can't remember what my avatar was or password was, so I am now posting under Mall Cop / Blueblades.

  We will miss Ray as he was instrumental in helping our family of four to get out of the Watchtower Organization.

  Mini: Does God Exist? Let me ask a few similar questions. Is there a God? What is the evidence for belief in such a being? What is God like? Or, is God a figment of human inspiration? How do we know that such a being might not exist?

  These are fundamental questions, and their answers have shaped individual lives, races, and nations throughtout history.

  To answer your question leads to many more questions. However, those who defend Christianity and other religions will answer yes to your question.

  Those who defend Atheism will answer no!

  Then there is the middle ground, Agnosticism.

  if you had been born in calcutta would you not in all probability be a hindu and, as hundreds of millions of people do, accept the vedas and the upanishads as sacred scriptures and hope sometime in the future to dwell in nirvana?.

  is it not probable that, had you been born in jerusalem, you would be a jew and, as millions of people do, believe that yahweh is god and that the torah is god's word?.

  If all Christians worship the same God, why can they not put aside their theological differences and co-operate actively with one another?

  Now, we all know that the answers to most of the above questions would be yes, and that some have broke away from their cultures and searched for answers to the why of it all, as have I. And this may have been all covered before and it is nothing new here.

  I just wanted to hear from you guys and gals to see if you have something new to add for all of us here.

  i know, i know... some of ya'll are gettin' sick of this "generation" thing... .

  but for whatever reason, i had not seen this actual quote from the dc talk (that or had not paid much attention to it until now).

  seeing it in print really brought home how desparate they are to try to hang on to 1914 in whatever way they can.

  We will never know who actually wrote this. Someone in writing dept or elsewhere suggested this "OUT" to the members of the Governing Body.

  I'm thinking one or two of the old timers not of the annointed, who are still hoping and hanging on for dear life because they fear what is natural to all creation, "DEATH." They want to live forever on a paradise earth. They have chewed on that "Carrot " down to the root.
